First Nine Weeks

Kindergarten

Introduction to a variety of art media, cut and paste skills and safety techniques with emphasis on following directions.

First Grade

Elements of design focusing on types of lines and repeating lines to create textures. Shape and color design.

Second Grade

Symmetrical , asymmetrical design, radial design, correct use of a variety of art media including markers and oil pastels.

 

Third Grade

Drawing unit; group portraits and Weaving unit; Navajo dove tail weaving.

Fourth Grade

Multi-media compositions based on the elements and principles of design.

 

Fifth Grade

Drawing unit focusing on the elements and principles of design . Multi-cultural - the art of the Navajo Indians.

Second Nine Weeks

Kindergarten

Develop understanding of elements of design by using them in holiday related projects.

First Grade

Crayon resist, stamp printing and holiday related activities.

Second Grade

Alternating patterns, warm and cool colors, watercolor washes


Third Grade

Print making unit, beginning painting unit focusing on color mixing and composition.

Fourth Grade

Clay unit focusing on the hollowing out technique and the correct use of clay working tools. Clay unit is delayed due to kiln problems. Drawing unit is extended and will include one point perspective and observational drawing with watercolor techniques.

 

Fifth Grade

Color theory using tempera, acrylic and watercolor paints.

Third Nine Weeks

Kindergarten

Winter related cut and paste techniques, beginning color mixing and simple painting techniques.

First Grade

Winter related cut and paste projects, hand puppets, tempera color mixing.

Second Grade

Drawing unit; action figure drawing and overlap to create distance. Begin tempera painting unit focusing on color mixing.


Third Grade

Painting unit using tempera and watercolors. Beginning clay unit; slab technique castles.

Fourth Grade

Multi-media printmaking unit. and tempera color mixing unit.

Fifth Grade

Clay unit; slab construction cottages.

Kindergarten

Multi-cultural unit using a variety of art media.

First Grade

Tempera painting and color theory.

Second Grade

Multi-cultural activities and simple paper sculpture

Third Grade

African 3-D masks and Rain sticks.

Fourth Grade

Multi-media printmaking unit. and tempera color mixing unit.

Fifth Grade

Calligraphy; use of calligraphy pen and ink, Chancery Cursive lettering style.
